9. ADOPT THE RESOLUTION REGARDING BOARD MEMBER RESIDENCE AREAS AS PRESENTED
Description
The Board may make changes to the boundaries of its member residence areas in odd-numbered years pursuant to Section 1001.36, Florida Statutes.  The proposed changes brings the School Board member residence areas into closer alignment with the residence areas for County Commissioners.

10. APPROVAL OF THE EASEMENT TO THE CITY OF SARASOTA ON THE SOUTHSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CAMPUS
Description
This easement allows the City of Sarasota access to a portion of the campus for the construction, maintenance or repair of utility lines.

AGREEMENTS/CONTRACTS

11. APPROVAL OF THE AGREEMENT FOR SERVICES BETWEEN SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA, AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description

The County and the School Board have previously entered into an agreement providing for the sharing of the administrative services of Robert Hanson.  The County and the School Board wish to extend this agreement for an additional twelve (12) months.

12. AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE SUNCOAST WORKFORCE BOARD, INC. AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA, FOR CAREER ADVISOR SERVICES
Description
This agreement details the relationship and responsibilities shared by the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, and the Suncoast Workforce Board, Inc. in providing career advisor services to district high schools.

That the agreement between the Suncoast Workforce Board, Inc. and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, be approved as presented.

13. AGREEMENT BETWEEN TAKE STOCK IN CHILDREN AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description

This agreement between Take Stock in Children and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, provides mentoring and potential college and vocational scholarships to selected students.

14. AGREEMENT BETWEEN BAY AREA YOUTH SERVICES, INC. AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description
This agreement provides a delinquency program for students identified as at-risk to becoming habitual juvenile offenders.

That the agreement between Bay Area Youth Services, Inc. and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, be approved as presented.

15. AGREEMENT BETWEEN GIRLS INC. AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA, FOR CAREER COUNSELING SERVICES
Description
This is a long standing agreement between Girls Inc. and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, to provide, upon securing appropriate parental consent, access to junior and senior girls at Booker, Riverview, Sarasota, Venice and North Port High Schools who have a GPA of 2.00 to 3.00, and who do not actively seek out guidance services, as well as middle school girls at Phoenix Academy, Booker Middle, Laurel Nokomis, Heron Creek Middle School and Cranberry Elementary.

Recommendation
That the agreement between Girls Inc. and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, for career counseling services be approved as presented.

16. APPROVAL OF AGREEMENT FOR SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER PROGRAM BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA, AND THE SARASOTA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
Description
This is a continuation of an agreement between the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, and the Sarasota County Sheriff's office for the School Resource Officer Program.

Recommendation
That the agreement for the School Resource Officer Program between the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, and the Sarasota County Sheriff's office in the amount of $1,424,252.00, be approved as presented.

17. APPROVAL OF AGREEMENT FOR SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER PROGRAM WITH THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA, AND THE CITY OF NORTH PORT
Description

This is a continuation of an agreement between the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, and the City of North Port Police Department.

That the agreement for the School Resource Officer Program between the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, and the City of North Port Police Department, in the amount of $237,578.18, be approved as presented.

18. APPROVAL OF AGREEMENT BETWEEN KAGAN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FL
Description

"Kagan Cooperative Learning School Trainer Institute".  This training will enable participants to go back to their schools and conduct workshops for their entire staff.  The goal of this training is to provide two trainers for each school by the end of the 2007-2008 school year.

Kagan Cooperative Learning teaches social skills, nurtures responsibility, and increases student engagement through structures that apply to all disciplines.

Kagan will provide consulting services, fliers, and event materials for Kagan's Cooperative Learning School Trainer Institute.  No more than 50 participants will attend at $699.00 each.

That the agreement between the School Board of Sarasota County and Kagan Professional Development be approved as presented.
19. AGREEMENT WITH SPRINT FOR CUSTOM NETWORK SOLUTIONS
Description

This agreement will allow Sprint to install, operate, and maintain in-building wireless distribution equipment in the four (4) buildings located at 1960 Landings Boulevard to enhance coverage of Sprint/Nextel cellular and wireless data services at the premises.  There is no cost to the district for engineering, connecting, or maintaining the equipment associated with this agreement.

20. AGREEMENT BETWEEN BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF THE SUNCOAST AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description
This is a long standing agreement between Big Brothers/Big Sisters of SunCoast and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, to provide one-to-one mentoring in our schools.

Recommendation

That the agreement for mentoring services between Big Brothers/Big Sisters of  SunCoast and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, be approved as presented.

21. AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE COMMUNITY YOUTH DEVELOPMENT OF SARASOTA COUNTY AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description

This agreement between the Community Youth Development of Sarasota County and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, provides training and opportunities for Sarasota County high school students to develop leadership skills.

22. APPROVAL OF CONTRACT WITH PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CENTER AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY FOR WRITING WORKSHOPS
Description

The Professional Development Center is providing a series of writing workshops for teachers at multiple schools.  These workshops focus on effective writing strategies for specific grade levels that are designed to improve student responses on the FCAT.  The total of their current contracts exceed the Board's limit of $25,000.  These contracts with Bay Haven, Englewood, Tuttle, Cranberry, Lamarque, Toledo Blade, Venice Middle School, and Ashton will provide a series of writing workshops at these additional school sites.   



Recommendation
That the contract between Professional Development Center and the School Board of Sarasota County for writing workshops be approved.
23. REGIONAL STUDENT SERVICES COLLABORATIVE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
Description

The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding is to coordinate assistance between and among Pasco, Pinellas, Sarasota, DeSoto, Hardee, Hillsborough, Charlotte, Polk and Manatee County School Boards (referred collectively as the Regional Student Services Collaborative and individually as the "Participating Party"), to provide resources for student support services as schools reopen during the recovery phase of a natural disaster or other emergency and to facilitate the timely reimbursement of costs incurred by the Participating Party which renders assistance.



Recommendation

That the Memorandum of Understanding between Pasco, Pinellas, DeSoto, Hardee, Hillsborough, Charlotte, Polk and Manatee County School Boards and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, be approved as presented.

24. AGREEMENT BETWEEN COASTAL BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE, INC. "FAMILY LIFE INTERVENTION PROGRAM" AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description

Coastal Behavioral Healthcare, Inc., "Family Life Intervention Program" will provide an early prevention program for at-risk youth in Sarasota County.  Services are provided at mutually agreed upon school locations at no cost to the district and transportation will be provided by Coastal, if needed.

That the agreement between Coastal Behavioral Healthcare, Inc. "Family Life Intervention Program" and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, be approved as presented.

25. APPROVAL OF THE ARTICULATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA AND MANATEE COMMUNITY COLLEGE

26. APPROVAL OF AGREEMENT WITH HUMANE SOCIETY "K-9 ENRICHMENT PROGRAM"
Description
This agreement will allow for non-paid career technical work experience for students 16 years and older, all exceptionalities, including Option I and Option II Diplomas in 10th, 11th, &/or 12th grade students from Booker High School, Riverview High School, Sarasota High School and Oak Park School, to learn the day to day operation of running a business at the Humane Society of Sarasota County, Inc., within the "K-9 Enrichment Program".

Recommendation
That the School Board approve the agreement between the Vocational Instructional Program and the Humane Society of Sarasota County, Inc., "K-9 Enrichment Program", as presented.
27. APPROVAL OF AGREEMENT WITH HUMANE SOCIETY OF SARASOTA, INC., "ANIMAL CARE TRAINING PROGRAM"
Description
This agreement will allow for non-paid career technical work experience for students 18 years and older, emotional handicapped and/or educable mentally handicapped, including Option I, Option II and Standard Diplomas in 10th, 11th, and/or 12th grade students from Booker High School, Riverview High School, Sarasota High School and Oak Park School, to learn the day to day operation of running a business at the Humane Society of Sarasota County, Inc., within the "Animal Care Training Program".

Recommendation
That the School Board approve the agreement between the Vocational Instructional Program and the Humane Society of Sarasota County, Inc., "Animal Care Training Program", as presented.
28. APPROVAL OF THIRD PARTY COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT FOR COMMUNITY BASED WORK EXPERIENCES
Description
This agreement will provide for expanded transition services for non-paid and paid Community Based Work Experiences to Vocational Rehabilitation eligible high school students, 16 years and older, with an Individual Plan for Employment that has been coordinated with the students' Transition Individual Educational Plan, to assist in developing appropriate work skills, attitudes, behaviors and work tolerance to plan for and achieve successful post high school employment. 

Recommendation
That the School Board approve the Third Party Cooperative Agreement between the Florida Department of Education, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and the Sarasota County School District, as presented.

29. CONTRACTED SERVICES BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA, AND THE CENTER FOR TECHNOLOGY AND EDUCATION, FLORIDA

30. APPROVAL OF THE ADDENDUM TO THE CONTRACT BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FL, AND THE YMCA EDUCATION OF HOMELESS CHILDREN AND YOUTH PROGRAM
Description
This addendum will now fund the Education of Homeless Children and Youth Program at the amount of $123,000, which is 100% funding.  Original grant award amount of $98,000, was funded at the rate of 80%.

Recommendation
That the addendum to the contract between the YMCA Education for Homeless Children and Youth Program and the School Board of Sarasota County, FL, be approved as presented.
31. AMENDMENT TO CONTRACT AGREEMENT WITH UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA
Description

On May 1 the School Board approved a contract with the University of  Florida Center for Building Better Communities to develop and implement a School Concurrency Management System.  Revenues from a Department of Community Affairs (DCA) grant totally funds this contract, such that DCA acceptance of this contract is required.  The original contract seemed to meet each party's concerns, but DCA and the university soon had issues regarding indemnification language.  Those issues have now been resolved and the revised contract is attached.



Recommendation

GRANTS

32. APPROVAL OF THE TITLE I PART A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR ACADEMIC INTERVENTION
Description
ENTITLEMENT: Grant funds provides supplemental resources to participating schools for the purpose of assisting them in meeting the academic needs of their students in the areas of math, reading, and science.

Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the Title I Part A grant application.
33. APPROVAL OF THE DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION GRANT APPLICATION TO THE GULF COAST COMMUNITY CENTER OF VENICE FOR TAYLOR RANCH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Description
COMPETITIVE: Grant funds will allow Taylor Ranch School to continue to develop as a model school for differentiated instruction internally, as well as throughout the district.

Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the Differentiated Instruction grant application.
34. APPROVAL OF THE REDUCING STRESS AND TEST ANXIETY IN ACCELERATED FOURTH GRADE STUDENTS TO THE GULF COAST COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF VENICE FOR PINE VIEW SCHOOL
Description
COMPETITIVE: The grant will be used to implement a test anxiety reduction program for the gifted fourth grade students.

Recommendation
That the School Board approve the Reducing Stress and Test Anxiety grant application.
35. APPROVAL OF THE TRI COUNTY CO OP FOR EMERGENCY READINESS GRANT APPLICATION TO THE US DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR SECURITY AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS
Description
COMPETITIVE: The purpose of this grant is to establish a three county (Sarasota, Manatee, and Charlotte) emergency response action plan between all law enforcement, fire departments, schools, and civilian emergency responders.

Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the Tri-County Co-Op for Emergency Readiness grant application.
36. APPROVAL OF THE ON THE MARK BUILDING A FOUNDATION FOR SUCCESS AT LAMARQUE ELEMENTARY GRANT APPLICATION TO THE GULF COAST COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF VENICE
Description
COMPETITIVE: Grant funds will provide the faculty and staff research-based strategies and tools to enhance students' achievement in all content areas.

Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the On the Mark: Building a Foundation for Success at Lamarque Elementary grant application.
37. APPROVAL OF THE NORTH PORT REMEDY GRANT APPLICATION TO THE GULF COAST COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF VENICE FOR HERON CREEK MIDDLE SCHOOL
Description
COMPETITIVE: The grant initiative will focus on establishing a strategic plan that addresses the unique needs of our students' in relation to improved achievement in reading and, their successful transition between elementary, middle, and high school.

Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the North Port Remedy grant application.
38. APPROVAL OF THE BALLET IN NORTH PORT GRANT APPLICATION TO THE TARGET STORES FOR NORTH PORT HIGH SCHOOL
Description
COMPETITIVE: Grant funds will educate students about the History of Ballet.

Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the Ballet in North Port grant application.
39. APPROVAL OF THE BUILDING EFFECTIVE HOME/SCHOOL READING CONNECTIONS GRANT APPLICATION TO THE TARGET STORES FOR TAYLOR RANCH ELEMENTARY
Description
COMPETITIVE: This project will increase parental participation in reading activities.

Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the Building Effective Home/School Reading Connections grant application.
40. APPROVAL OF THE HISTORIC SARASOTA HIGH SCHOOL NEW LIFE PHASE 2 GRANT APPLICATION TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF STATE DIVISION OF HISTORICAL RESOURCES
Description
COMPETITIVE: This grant will continue the work of historic preservation and ADA accessibility for the 1927 Sarasota High School.

Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the Historic Sarasota High School New Life, Phase 2 grant application.
41. APPROVAL OF THE SAFE AND DRUG FREE SCHOOLS GRANT APPLICATION TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR THE SARASOTA COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT
Description

ENTITLEMENT: Funds will comply with federal regulations and promote tobacco, alcohol, other drug and violence prevention as well as character education promotion.



Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the Safe and Drug Free Schools grant application.
42. APPROVAL OF THE EDUCATION FOR HOMELESS CHILDREN AND YOUTH GRANT APPLICATION TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR THE SARASOTA COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT
Description
COMPETITIVE: Grant funds will continue the YMCA contracted services to provide case managers to serve as "Homeless Liaison" between the School Board, community agencies/shelters and targeted homeless children and their families.

Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the Education for Homeless Children and Youth grant application.
43. APPROVAL OF THE READING FIRST GRANT CONTINUATION APPLICATION TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR CURRICULUM
Description
CONTINUATION: Year 5 funding of this 6 year grant will provide professional development opportunities and coaching in reading to teachers at Alta Vista, Emma E. Booker, and Tuttle Elementary Schools.

Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the Reading First Grant Continuation application.
44. APPROVAL OF THE IDEA PART B GRANT APPLICATION TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR PUPIL SUPPORT SERVICES
Description

ENTITLEMENT: IDEA, Part B funding is provided to a school to assist in covering the excess cost in Federally required special education and related services to students with disabilities.



Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the IDEA Part B grant application.
45. APPROVAL OF THE ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES AND SENIOR LEARNERS GRANT APPLICATION TO THE FLORDIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION
Description
CONTINUATION: This grant covers a two county region and funds provide adults with disabililties and senior citizens the opportunity for enhancement of skills that are appropriate and consistent with their abillities and needs.

Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the Adults with Disabilities and Senior Learners grant application.
EXPULSIONS

46. EXPULSION CASE NO. 07-233
Description

The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 07-233, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement.  On January 29, 2007, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 07-233, violated School Board Policy 5.322, Protection against use, sale or possession of alcohol or drugs.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until December 31, 2007.



Recommendation
That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 07-233, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for 2007 summer session, until December 31, 2007 of the 2007-2008 academic year.

47. EXPULSION CASE NO. 07-404
Description
On May 9, 2007, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 07-404, violated School Board Policy 5.321(1)(b), Possession of Weapon (knife).  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until May 23, 2008 of the 2007-2008 academic year.

Recommendation
That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, and the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case 07-404, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools be approved effective immediately for the summer of 2007 until May 23, 2008 of the 2007-2008 academic year.

48. APPROVAL TO AWARD PROPOSAL #7142 FOR BRIEF RECORDS UPDATE - MEDIA
Description

A proposal to provide 'Brief Records Update - Media' was received from one vendor on May 22, 2007.  The proposal of Marcive, Inc., was the best proposal meeting the advertised specifications and falls within budgetary guidelines.  These services include upgrading of media center database records and the addition of Lexile and Accelerated Reader information.  The funds for this purchase are contained in the budget allocated for the project for the Curriculum Department.



Recommendation
That the proposal of Marcive, Inc., to provide 'Brief Records Update - Media' in the amount of $86,644.00, be approved for award and purchase.

49. APPROVAL TO AWARD BID #7092 FOR GOLF CART MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR
Description

A bid to provide 'Golf Cart Maintenance and Repair' was received from one vendor on May 24, 2007.  The bid of Custom Carts, Inc., met the bid specifications and falls within budgetary guidelines.  This bid is for a period of one year with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods.  The funds for these purchases are contained in the capital budget allocated to the Facilities Services Department.



Recommendation
That the bid of Custom Carts, Inc., to provide 'Golf Cart Maintenance and Repair' in an amount not to exceed $50,000.00, be approved for award and purchase.

51. APPROVAL FOR THE DELETION FOR DEMOLITION OF SHED BUILDING #96-158 AT SARASOTA HIGH SCHOOL
Description
The specified shed building recommended for deletion has been inspected by Facilities and Construction Services staff and is deemed no longer to be economical to maintain or renovate.  This shed is currently being used as outlined on the enclosure.  Funds for demolition are available in the Facilities Services capital projects account.

Recommendation
That the deletion of shed building #96-158 at Sarasota High School from the F.I.S.H. inventory for demolition be approved as presented.

53. APPROVAL OF PHASE III DRAWINGS FOR THE RIVERVIEW HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT - AUDITORIUM (BUILDING #2) AND GYMNASIUM (BUILDING #3)
Description

The construction manager's estimated cost for this construction at Phase III is $19,381,425.00.  Funds for this project are available in the capital  projects account.  These drawings are available for review at the Construction Services Department and one-half hour prior to the Board meeting.



Recommendation
That the Phase III Drawings for the Riverview High School project - Auditorium (Building #2) and Gymnasium (Building #3) be approved as presented.
54. APPROVAL OF BID FOR THE LAKEVIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - RENOVATION PROJECT HVAC EQUIPMENT
Description

There are three (3) acceptable manufacturers of chillers and air handlers approved for installation in this school district.  All three (3) manufacturers were invited to bid.  Three (3) bids were opened on May 29, 2007.  The direct purchase of this will save $15,230.00 in sales tax and will facilitate early delivery of the equipment to meet the construction schedule.  Tampa Bay Trane submitted a bid of $253,000.00.  Funds for this project are available in the capital projects account.



Recommendation
That the bid submitted by Tampa Bay Trane for the Lakeview Elementary School - Renovation project HVAC equipment, in the amount of $253,000.00, be approved as presented.

55. APPROVAL TO RESCIND C.O. #1, ACCEPTANCE OF GUARANTEED MAXIMUM PRICE PROPOSAL FOR PHASE 1 AND APPROVAL OF CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION FOR PHASE 1 FOR THE LAKEVIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - RENOVATION PROJECT
Description

Change Order #1 approved 5/15/2007 (Item #48) is being rescinded because it is inappropriate to issue a change order to a pre-construction contract.  Under the terms of the 2/20/2007 (Item #40) Board approved "Agreement between Owner and Construction Manager for Pre-Construction and Bidding Services", the Director of Construction Services and a member of the Professional Services Selection Committee (PSSC) have successfully negotiated a contract with Peter J. Hayes, Inc. (dba Tandem Construction), for the Lakeview Elementary School - Renovation project: Phase 1.  As indicated, the 2/20/2007 agreement included pre-construction and bidding services only.  This contract is being negotiated in two (2) phases in order for the project to remain on schedule for an August 2008 completion.  This Contract for Construction is only for Phase 1 of the project.  The scope of work for this phase shall include partial preparation of the site, moving three (3) existing portable buildings and providing services to twelve (12) new classroom portables.  This contract was negotiated on 6/1/2007 and this contract amount is $617,384.00.  The Contract for Construction for Phase 2 - Vertical Construction of the project - will be negotiated separately at a later date and the estimated cost for that portion of the work is $3,861,081.00.  This contract, which is the standard document utilized for all of the District's construction contracts, is available for review at the Construction Services Department.  The School Board attorney has approved the use of this GMP proposal acceptance form and contract.  Funds for this contract are available in the project budget account.



Recommendation
That Change Order #1 to the Agreement between Owner and Construction Manager for Pre-Construction and Bidding Services approved by the Board on 5/15/2007 be rescinded, and in its place the Guaranteed Maximum Price Proposal for Phase 1 be accepted as presented and the Construction for Construction of Phase 1 for the Lakeview Elementary School - Renovation project be approved as presented.

56. ACCEPTANCE OF SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION FOR THE NORTH PORT HIGH SCHOOL - SOFTBALL FIELD PROJECT
Description
The architect has prepared the Certificate of Substantial Completion and final punch list.  The project is substantially complete in accordance with the contract documents.  A copy of the final punch list is available for review at the Construction Services Department.

59. AMENDMENT TO THE CHARTER AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY AND THE SARASOTA MILITARY ACADEMY
Description
The Sarasota Military Academy has submitted an amendment to its charter agreement with the school district.  The most significant changes requested in the amendment are the establishment of a middle school program, at the former School in the Park facility, and a requested extension of the Charter to 2020.

Recommendation
#59-That the amendment to the Charter Agreement between the School Board of Sarasota County and the Sarasota Military Academy be approved/denied as presented.

60. APPROVAL OF THE LEASE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY AND SARASOTA COUNTY GOVERNMENT FOR THE NEW FLORIDA HOUSE LOCATION
Description
The lease is for a five-year term and gives the county access to the new location (just north of the Toyota Building) effective July 1, 2007.  The timing and location of the new lease will allow the County and Florida House Advisory Board to actively begin the move process so that the move of the new Sarasota County Technical Center can begin this fall.

Recommendation
#60-That the Board approve the lease agreement between the School Board of Sarasota County and Sarasota County Government for the new Florida House location.

61. APPROVAL FOR THE SCHOOL BOARD TO AUTHORIZE THE CHAIRMAN TO EXECUTE ALL DOCUMENTS PREPARED BY LEGAL COUNSEL NECESSARY TO COMPLETE PROPERTY EXCHANGES WITH SARASOTA COUNTY NECESSARY FOR THE NEW CONSTRUCTION AT RIVERVIEW HIGH SCHOOL
Description

These exchanges are associated with the project to rebuild Riverview High School.  As a group, these actions will allow the School Board to proceed with that project and will give the County both properties associated with Lords Avenue and necessary easement rights.

 



Recommendation

#61-That the School Board authorize the Chairman to execute all documents prepared by legal counsel necessary to complete property exchanges with Sarasota County necessary for the new construction at Riverview High School:

1.  quitclaim deed granting 40 feet of additional right of way for land currently underlying Lords Avenue plus land for a new right turn lane from Proctor Road onto Lords Avenue;
2.  easement of approximately 16 by 6 feet along Proctor Road for a bus stop;
3.  easement for sidewalk maintenance of an additional one foot along the boundaries of Lords Avenue and the turn lane;
4.  deed to the new lift station property (40X32 feet) and easements for access and for connecting utility lines thereto; and
5.  a bill of sale for the lift station.

All of these conveyances are subject to the simultaneous actions by Sarasota County accomplishing the following:

1.  vacation of Rexrode Road (Ram Bow Way) right of way within the School site;
2.  vacation of a 7 foot strip of land running east-west between Rexrode and Phillippi Creek;
3.  release of a utility easement along Rexrode to the former lift station; and
4.  release of two 10 foot utility easements to former utility facilities.

63. AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE JEWISH FAMILY AND CHILDREN'S SERVICES AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description
This agreement provides services to Booker Middle School and McIntosh Middle School students under the Challenge to Change/Safe to Out-of-School Suspension Program.  It is an intensive therapeutic program which incorporates school supportive to at-risk youth ages 11-15.
